Hart Memorial Trophy

The Hart Memorial Trophy is an ice hockey trophy in the National Hockey League. It is awarded annually to the most valuable player during the regular season in the NHL by the Professional Hockey Writers' Association.

The trophy was donated by Dr. David Hart, father of Cecil Hart, a former coach and manager of the Montreal Canadiens. In 1960, the original trophy named Hart Trophy by today's hard Memorial Trophy was replaced. The old Hart Trophy was awarded a place in the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Record winner is Wayne Gretzky, who won the trophy nine times, eight of them in a row. No other athlete in the four major sports leagues of North America (MLB, NBA, NFL and NHL) could win an MVP award more often.

Dominik Hasek is the only goalkeeper to have won the trophy twice. Only five other goalkeepers were honored as Most Valuable Player.

The players of the Montreal Canadiens have won 16 trophies, more than any other team. They are followed by the Boston Bruins with twelve awards and the Detroit Red Wings and Edmonton Oilers with nine trophies.

Joe Thornton 2005/06 was the first player in the history of the NHL, in which he was awarded joined the team during the season. He played in the first season for the Boston Bruins before he was transferred to the San Jose Sharks.

2000 and 2002 he was elected most valuable player was very close. Chris Pronger was in 2000 at the end with only one point ahead of Jaromir Jagr and 2002 were José Théodore Jarome Iginla and the same score. Theodore finally won the trophy since 86 journalists had chosen him in the first place, while there were only 82 in Iginla.
