Hartford County, Connecticut

Hartford County is a county located in the north of the U.S. state of Connecticut. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Hartford.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,944 square kilometers. Of these, 1,905 square kilometers of land area and 39 square kilometers of water, the proportion of water surface thus amounts to 2.02 percent.

History

Hartford County was one of four Gründungscountys 1666.

In Hartford County is the Bradley International Airport, the second largest airport in New England.

According to the census of 2000, there were 857 183 people in the county. There were 335 098 households and 222 505 families. The population density was 450 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 76.90 percent White, 11.66 percent Black or African American, 0.23 percent Native American, 2.42 percent Asian, 0.04 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 6.43 percent from other races groups; 11.55 percent of the total population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 335 098 households out of which 31.3 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 49.2 percent were married couples living together, 13.5 percent were single mothers. 33.6 percent were non-families. 27.9 percent of all households and 10.7 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 3.05.

Based on the county the population was spread from 24.6 percent population under 18 years, 7.8 percent between 18 and 24 years, 29.8 percent between 25 and 44 years, 23.2 percent between 45 and 64 years and 14.7 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 92.7 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.0 males.

The median income for a household was $ 50,756, and the median income for a family was $ 62,144. Males have a median income of $ 43,985, women $ 33,042. The per capita income was $ 26,047. 9.3 percent of the population and 7.1 percent of families are below the poverty line. This included 12.9 percent of the population under the age of 18 and 7.6 percent of the population aged 65 and over.
