Hartford is a town that is centrally located in Washington County, the State of New York. It belongs to the Glens Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. In 2000, the Town had 2279 inhabitants.

History

The Provincial patent of 1766 granted officers who had served in the French and Indian War, the country on the territory of the present Towns Putnam, Fort Ann, belonging to the Kingsbury part of Dresden and Hartford. This area was once dedicated to the Town of Westfield and from the Town of Hartford in 1793 dissolved out. Many of the early settlers came from New England in the area.

Today's Hartford Baptist Church is the fourth church building at this point. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004. Entered in the National Register is the Elisha Straight House, which housed a recruiting office for Union soldiers during the Civil War.
