Hartford is a town that is centrally located in Washington County, the State of New York. It belongs to the Glens Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. In 2000, the Town had 2279 inhabitants.
History
The Provincial patent of 1766 granted officers who had served in the French and Indian War, the country on the territory of the present Towns Putnam, Fort Ann, belonging to the Kingsbury part of Dresden and Hartford. This area was once dedicated to the Town of Westfield and from the Town of Hartford in 1793 dissolved out. Many of the early settlers came from New England in the area.
Today's Hartford Baptist Church is the fourth church building at this point. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004. Entered in the National Register is the Elisha Straight House, which housed a recruiting office for Union soldiers during the Civil War.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 112.6 km ², of which 112.5 km ² land and 0.1 km ² ( = 0.09% ) is attributable to water. The Big Creek is a small water and flows out to the western city limits of Hartford.
In the village of Hartford to New York State Route 40 and New York State Route 149 intersect, the intersection with New York State Route 196 is located in South Hartford.

Demography
At the time of the census of 2000, there were 2279 persons Hartford. The population density was 20.3 people per km ². There were 885 housing units at an average 7.9 per km ². The population consisted of Hartford 97.76 % White, 0.57 % African American, 0.48 % Native American, 0.04 % Asian, 0 % Pacific Islander, 0.04 % reported from other races, and 1.10 % from two or more races. 0.79 % of the population to be Hispanic or Latino of any race.
The residents of Hartford distributed to 813 households out of which 39.2 % were living in children under 18 years. 65.7 % married couples living together, 9.1 % had a female householder with no husband present, and 21.3 % were non-families. 16.2% of households were made up of individuals and someone lived in 6.3% of all households aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.80 and the average family size is 3.11.
The population was spread out with 28.7 % under the, 6.1 % 18 -24- year-old, 31.7 % 25 -44- year-old, 24.3% 45-64 year olds and 9.1 % under the age of 65 years or more. The average age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 102.2 males. In the over -18s accounted for 100 women, 97.8 men.
The median household income in Hartford was 43,684 U.S. dollars and the median family income reached the height of 46,600 U.S. dollars. The average income of men was 30 734 U.S. dollars, compared to 19 906 U.S. dollars for women. The per capita income amounted to 16 969 U.S. dollars. 4.4% of the population and 3.5 % of families had affected an income below the poverty line, including 1.4 % of minors and 10.1 % of those age 65 or over.
