Hartig net

As HARTIG network an intercellular hyphae dense network of fungi is called who live symbiotically with woody plants.

Biology

The fungal hyphae grow it from the intercellular spaces of the root skin ( rhizodermis ) starting in the outer cortical layers of the host. The Hartigsche network is typical of this form symbiotic ( ectomycorrhizal ). It serves the fungus in this symbiosis for nutrient uptake from the host cell.

In this symbiosis form fungi act as so-called Saprobionten by living as " rot -eaters " of decomposing, organic nutrients. The host, in turn, is able to digest the fungal hypha. The Hartigsche network increases the interface between plant and fungus enormous.

Name

The Hartigsche network is named after the forest pathologist Robert Hartig.
