Hartmut Briesenick

Hartmut Briesenick (born 17 March 1949 in Luckenwalde, Brandenburg, † March 8, 2013 ) was a German athlete who in the 1970s - starting for the GDR - one of the world's best Kugelstoßern. He won the bronze medal at the Olympics and was twice European champion.

Life

Briesenick was from 1969 to 1972 four times in a row GDR Champion in the hall. Outdoors, he won in 1970, 1971, 1973 and 1974. Between 1970 and 1972, he was three times European Indoor champion. His greatest successes are the bronze medal at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich and the victory at the European Championships in 1971 and 1974:

Hartmut Briesenick competed for the SC Dynamo Berlin and coached at Willi cooling. In his playing days he was 1.91m tall and weighed 116 kg. In the becoming public knowledge after the fall of documents on doping in the GDR was found in the doped athletes also the name of Briesenick.

1971 and 1974 Briesenick received the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze.

In 1978 he ended his sports career and worked as a youth coach at SC Dynamo Berlin. He was married 3 times, with the volleyball national player Marion Riebel, Undine Briesenick ( son and daughter ) and the shot put Olympic medalist Ilona Slupianek ( daughter). After the end of the GDR, he worked for a sports equipment company.
