Hartwig of Uthlede

Hartwig II of Utlede (or Uthlede ) ( † November 3, 1207 ) was from 1184 until his death, Archbishop of Hamburg -Bremen, and Imperial Prince of Bremen.

Biography

Born into the family of Stiftsministerialen of Uthlede, he came first as a notary and protege of Henry the Lion of the Bremen cathedral chapter. His election as bishop was regarded as a victory of Guelph over the Staufer. 1189 he had sold by the citizens of Bremen emigrate to England, then lived on the Lüneburg court from where he waged war against his own diocese. To its counterpart Bishop Bishop Valdemar of Schleswig was used. From 1194 he became bishop again, but remained with Count Adolf III. Look of the castle and the citizens of Bremen up to one of the Emperor Henry VI. 1195 brokered peace in feud. 1197/98 he took part in the crusade of Henry VI. to the Holy Land in part. During his tenure, the secure of his predecessor Siegfried for the diocese of Bremen County Stade was again lost to the Guelphs.

He was buried in Bremen Cathedral, and reburied in 1225 promoted by him St. Ansgarikirche in Bremen.
