Harvester of Sorrow is a song by American thrash metal band Metallica. The song was coupled out in the United Kingdom as the second single from her fourth studio album ... And Justice for All, while in North America Eye of the Beholder was released as the second single.

Formation

Harvester of Sorrow was written by James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich. The song is kept in a slow for the band at that time pace. Towards the end of the song she plays it against a tactical manner. Lyrically it 's about a man who leads a normal life and a wife and three children has. One day the man goes mad and bring all people into its surroundings.

As a B-side, the band recorded cover versions of the song Breadfan and The Prince, which were originally written by the Welsh heavy metal band Budgie or the British heavy metal band Diamond Head.

Performances

For the first time the song on May 23, 1988, played at a concert in Los Angeles. Harvester of Sorrow is one of the regularly played songs on the band and was performed over 600 times. Only between 1995 and 2003, the song was not played. A live version of the song was used as the B-side for the single Nothing Else Matters. In this version, forgot the band to play the second chorus.

Reception

The single reached number 20 in the UK Singles Chart. Harvester of Sorrow occupied in the created by the magazine Guitar World list of the 100 best Metallica songs of all time place 31
