Harvey Balls

Harvey Balls are circular ideograms that are used to make qualitative data graphically. They are used in comparison tables to indicate the extent to which an examination subject coincides with defined terms of reference.

Example of use

For a product comparison can be represented numerically information such as price or weight, information such as the presence or absence of certain features may be shown by a hook. Information such as " security " or " user -friendliness " are harder to reproduce at a glance. For Harvey Balls are often used.

They are also widely used for qualitative comparisons in project management to highlight the degree of goal achievement.

The invention is based on Harvey Poppel, who introduced it in the 1970s as an employee of the consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton. For this reason, Harvey Balls are sometimes referred to as " Booz - Balls".

Harvey Balls have nothing to do with Harvey Ball, inventor of the smileys.
