Harvey D. Scott

Harvey David Scott ( * October 18, 1818 in Ashtabula, Ohio; † July 11, 1891 in Pasadena, California ) was an American politician. Between 1855 and 1857 he represented the State of Indiana in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Harvey Scott attended the common schools and graduated from Asbury University, now DePauw University in Greencastle (Indiana) thereafter. After a subsequent study of law and qualifying as a lawyer, he started in Terre Haute to work in this profession. In addition, he held in his new home some local offices.

In the 1850s, Scott joined the short-lived opposition party. In the congressional elections of 1854 he was appointed as their candidate in the seventh constituency of Indiana in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he succeeded the Democrat John G. Davis took on 4 March 1855 that he had beaten in the election. Until March 3, 1857, he was able to complete only one term in Congress. This was determined by the events leading up to the Civil War.

After his retirement from the U.S. House of Representatives, Scott retired from politics. In the following years he practiced as a lawyer again. Between 1881 and 1884 he was a judge in Vigo County. In 1887, Harvey Scott moved to California, where he died in Pasadena on July 11, 1891.
