Harvey Leibenstein

Harvey Leibenstein ( * 1922, † 1994) was an American economist.

Harvey Leibenstein taught from 1967 to 1987 at Harvard University. He introduced the concept of X - inefficiency, which describes the elevation of costs by monopolies, if they lack the competition. Leibenstein was able to show that it is very difficult to determine the "market price" of the products of a monopoly, which according to John Maurice Clark, the quality of the monopoly should be determined. The concept of X - inefficiency is also used in the theory of bureaucracy.
