Harvey Postlethwaite

Harvey Postlethwaite ( born March 4, 1944 in England; † 15 April 1999 in Barcelona) was a British engineer and designer of Formula 1 cars and Technical Director of several Formula 1 teams.

Life

Postlethwaite studied Mechanical Engineering in Birmingham. After his doctorate, he soon began to turn to car racing. He worked for Hesketh Racing, Walter Wolf Racing, Ferrari, Tyrrell and clean.

From him many famous racing cars and other technological innovations such as come the first front wing design which was the trend for all other teams. Was published in 1990 by the Tyrrell 019 for the first Formula 1 car with a car's nose, which was placed above the front wing. Still run most of the Formula 1 cars with this variant, which was developed by Postlethwaite in collaboration with the Italian aerodynamicist Jean -Claude Migeot. For several decades, Postlethwaite was one of the best and most influential engineers of Formula 1 After Tyrrell was taken over by British American Tobacco, Postlethwaite moved to Honda, where he drove forward its own, ultimately checked Formula 1 program for the Japanese company.

He died in 1999 in tests for Honda in Spain due to heart failure.
