Harvey Smith (equestrian)

Harvey Smith ( born December 29, 1938 in Yorkshire ) is a former British Show Jumping.

Biography

Harvey represented Great Britain at two Olympic Games, he came neither 1968 ( Mexico) or 1972 ( Munich) in the medal ranks. He rode in five European Championships and brought every time a medal home.

In 1971 he showed the scorekeepers the offensive in the UK V- gesture ( back of the hand to the outside), after he won the Hickstead Derby on Mattie Brown. This meant that he was disqualified. However, he appealed and won. He relied on a Victory Victory Salute to have shown.

In 1990 he resigned from the tournament sport and founded with his wife and trainer Sue Smith, a former show jumper, a racing team on his farm in Yorkshire.

In April 2010, Harvey received a lifetime achievement award for his outstanding contribution to the British Show Jumping.

Family

Harvey Smith is the father of show jumper Robert Smith. His younger son, Steven Smith was jumping rider, won at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, the silver medal with the British team.
