Harvey Weinstein
Harvey Weinstein ( born March 19, 1952 in Flushing, Queens, New York) is an American film producer.
Life and career
Harvey Weinstein, son of a Jewish family, graduated from the State University of New York, and had already during his studies along with his younger brother Bob Weinstein, a small theater, the Century Theatre, where they held, among other small film festivals. Meanwhile, the brothers are among the most successful film producers in the United States; while the focus of her work was always in New York, not in Hollywood.
In 1979, Harvey and Bob Weinstein founded the production company Miramax, whose corporate name (company name ) is composed of the first names of their parents, Miriam and Max Weinstein.
Among the most successful films Miramax and the Weinstein brothers are Chicago ( 2002), Shakespeare in Love (1998, Oscar and British Academy Film Award for Best Picture, Satellite Award for Best Comedy or Musical), Scary Movie (2000 ) the English Patient (1996) and gangs of New York (2002, nominated for an Oscar and a British Academy film Award for Best Picture ).
Despite the great success of Miramax, there was always likely to artistic differences between the Weinstein brothers and Miramax Partner Disney. The conflict over the documentation Fahrenheit 9/11 (2004) by Michael Moore, who did not want to publish Disney, meant that the Weinsteins bought the rights of the project independently of their private assets.
In September 2005, Harvey and Bob Weinstein left Miramax and founded their company with the resulting transfer fee of 140 million U.S. dollars, the Weinstein Company.
With a few exceptions (such as Gangs of New York) Harvey Weinstein is referred to as an executive producer and co- executive producer.
His TV talent show Project Runway was nominated five times for an Emmy, Project Greenlight three times.
Private life
Harvey Weinstein, who survived a heart attack in 2000, was from 1986 to 2004 married to Eve Chilton Weinstein. The marriage produced three daughters (* 1995, 1998, 2002) emerged. Since 2007, he is married to the fashion designer Georgina Chapman. Together they have a daughter (* 2010) and a son (* 2013).
