Hasan di Tiro

Hasan di Tiro ( born September 25, 1925 in Pidie, † June 3, 2010 in Aceh ) was the founder of the separatist group Free Aceh Movement (GAM ), an organization that seeks the independence of Aceh from Indonesia since the 1970s.

Hasan di Tiro was the dynastic successor of the sultans of Aceh, and if the Muslim monarchy had been restored in Aceh, he or his eldest son of the Sultan of Aceh. Since 1980 he has lived in Stockholm, Sweden. He also had Swedish citizenship.

After the tsunami at the end of 2004, the GAM and the Indonesian government concluded a peace agreement, which provides more autonomy for Aceh and was accepted by di Tiro.
