Hasan Gemici

Hasan Gemici ( born June 15, 1927 in Giresun, † 25 June 2001 İzmit ) was a Turkish wrestler and Olympic champion in 1952 in Helsinki in free style flyweight.

Career

Hasan Gemici grew up in Izmit, Prov. Kocaeli, and began as a teenager with the rings. He developed into an outstanding freestyle wrestler. As a flyweight he had in Turkey, especially in Ali Yücel tough competition. When he stepped down after the World Cup in 1951, the way for him to the 1952 Olympics in Helsinki was free.

First Hasan won in 1951 but at the Mediterranean Games in Alexandria in free style flyweight. At the Olympic Games in Helsinki, the three medalists defeated flyweight Hasan Gemici, Yushu Kitano from Japan and Mahmoud Mollaghassemi from Iran each other. So had the best point ratio of the preliminaries to decide and had Hassan Gemici. He was therefore Olympic champion before Kitano and Mollaghassemi.

Already in 1953 Hasan Gemici was replaced in Turkey Hüseyin and Ahmet Bilek Akbaş. He came therefore, no further operations in international championships more. He finished his career in 1955 as an active wrestler and was in his home town of Izmit Ringer coach. In the 1960s, he also worked for several years as a coach in Romania.
