Hasel (Werra)

Stone arch bridge over the hazelnuts on the pipe Monastery

The hazel is a rising above the nominal Quellarm 26.4 km, 32.5 km on the volume and on the Schwarza plus Schönau even 38.1 km long right tributary of the Werra from the Thuringian Forest in southern Thuringia.

Course

The hazel rises in Suhl below the Friedberges. Already in Suhl already lead some tributaries in the hazel. It is spanned by the Viaduct Haseltal. After a few kilometers then flow of Steinbach and the volume in the hazel. The hazel then flows on through the Haseltal. After pollution by industrial effluents in the past decades, the river is now again very clean. In Ellingshausen a dam should be built in the 1980s, but you decided to terminate the project. After 26.4 km hazel opens in Einhausen into the Werra.

Tributaries

The river system of the hazel places are scattered around the south-western Thuringian Forest. Here, the mountain range is distinctively divided by the river branches into individual ridge.

Below is an eastward ordered clockwise from the west lineup that also takes into account higher order inflows. For an order in the flow direction of the hazel, the table is to arrange according to watercourses indicators ( DGKZ ).

For the wedding with the Werra hazel contributes more than a third of the water; about the same amount previously accrued from the subjects of the lock of the Werra, who immediately southeast joins the hazel. This demonstrates the dominance of the two river systems within the lower Werra.

Of the total 4.65 m³ / s, which promotes the hazel of water coming from the system of only 2.35 Schwarza whose catchment areas to the estuary is also larger than that of the hazel to get there. The hazel on the Schwarza 38.1 km compared to 26.4 km is much longer.

Within the Upper Hazel the official Quellarm is actually a tributary of the Lauter ( outflow: 0,895 m³ / s, length of hazel on the volume 32.5 km ), which in turn arose from the equal confluence of Lauter and Mühlwasser (see table above ).
