Political attitude

Hashem Aghadscheri lost a leg in the Iran- Iraq war. He became internationally known for his criticism of social injustices and political oppression in Iran and the analysis of their religious and cultural causes. He publicly declared that Muslims Islamic clerics should not blindly follow. Aghadscheri calls for an " Islamic Protestantism " and an " Islamic Humanism " in the tradition of Ali Shariati:

"Today Islam must be different. In all areas of life, we must develop a new understanding of Islam. Islam today has to match the mindset and the reality of today ... The religious leaders have taught us that it is a crime to interpret the Koran on their own. They feared well that their guild would break because the boys learned to read the Quran itself ... The people are not monkeys only imitate. The learner understands and acts accordingly. He strives to expand his knowledge so that he no longer needed the teacher one day. The fundamentalists but strive for a relationship between master and entourage. The Lord then always remains the Lord and the entourage always the entourage. This is mental slavery - like a chain around his neck. The ruling clergy in Iran wants to exercise total power ... Our culture needs an Islamic humanism. The human rights are guaranteed in our Constitution. No one shall be trampled. "
