Haslau -Maria Ellend is a municipality with 1873 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district of Bruck an der Leitha in Lower Austria. Maria Ellend is an old Marian shrine with a Lourdes grotto, right on the street Bratislava B 9

Geography

Haslau -Maria Ellend is located on the Danube River in the industrial area in Lower Austria. The area of ​​the municipality covers 24.83 km ². 42.01 % of the area is forested.

History

Origin of the place name: A legend from the 14th century tells of the origin of the place name: Children playing discovered on the banks of the Danube, a statue of Mary, which seemed apparently to swim against the current. The site was " Maria Anlandt " named, it evolved over time, " Maria Alland " and finally " Maria Ellend "

In ancient times, the area was part of the Roman province of Pannonia. The first written mention is found around 1080, from 12th to 14th century, the location is determined by the knights of Haslau and thus also the site of a castle. During this time, the place is a fief of Orth an der Donau, or Petronell. After the Turkish wars in 1529 and 1683 the city was heavily depopulated and was colonized in the wake of Croats, so commonly the place-name -Croatian Haslau was used. After the collapse of the monarchy in 1918, the population targeted to the original place names Haslau.

In the 18th century there was a landslide in the northern line of the former village road crash.
