Hastelloy

Hastelloy is the brand name for a nickel-based alloy Haynes International, Inc. The so called group of materials is resistant to many aggressive chemicals.

Varieties

Hastelloy B

The Hastelloy -B alloys belong to the group of highly corrosion- resistant nickel -molybdenum alloys. Hastelloy B contains 26 to 30 % molybdenum.

These materials are characterized by very good resistance in reducing media, such as in the whole concentration and temperature range in hydrochloric acid.

Hastelloy C

Hastelloy C was originally developed as a material for output nozzles of jet engines. However, the very high temperature resistance also led to use in other areas of technology. This nickel - chromium -molybdenum alloys are characterized by excellent resistance in oxidizing and reducing media, even at elevated temperatures. The alloy CX2M [ Hastelloy C-22 ] has good resistance to wet media, such as sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, nitric acid, chlorine gas, and sulfuric acid, mixtures of oxidizing acids with chloride ions. A special feature of this alloy is its high resistance to crevice, pitting and stress corrosion cracking at elevated temperatures under oxidizing and reducing conditions.

Use

Frequent use will Hastelloy, for example, reactors, piping and valves in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries or in pressure vessels in nuclear power plants. Alternatives in chemical plant offer in addition to other nickel-based alloys, steel or FRP components that are associated with a chemically resistant liner for example, perfluoroalkoxylalkane (PFA ) lined.
