Hastings is a city and the county seat of Adams County in the U.S. state of Nebraska.

History

The first house in Hastings was built in 1871, but the place was only a year later as established when the Burlington & Missouri River Railroad Hastings entered. The namesake of the city was Colonel Thomas D. Hastings, who worked for the St. Joseph & Denver Railroad and was instrumental in that the railway lines combined at the site of the present city, which led to a rapid growth. The official registration took place in 1874.

After 1873 the newspaper Hastings Journal had gone to print, 1877 was transferred to the Hastings County Seat of Juniata.
