Hatip Dicle

Hatip Dicle with full name Mehmet Hatip Dicle (born 1954 in Diyarbakır ) is a Turkish politician.

In 1979 he completed his engineering studies at the İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi. Back in the 70s he became involved in political clubs. Later he became a member of HEP ( Halkin Emek Partisi, working party of the people ).

For the general elections 1991, the HEP was a an electoral alliance with the Parti Erdal İnönü Sosyaldemokrat Halkçı. So could move to the Turkish Parliament, among other Hatip Dicle, Leyla Zana, Orhan Doğan, Ahmet Türk, Sırrı Sakik, Mahmut Selim Sadak and Alınak. As Dicle stepped to the lectern at the swearing of Deputies on 6 November 1991, he said that he take this oath only because of coercion by the Constitution. There were loud protests at the meeting. Then when Leyla Zana their oath later added a Kurdish movement, caused a riot. Later they had to renounce their first oath and the oath of office as normal. In 1993, the HEP was banned. Faced with the imminent ban earlier with the DEP ( Demokrasi Parti, Party of democracy ) was established a successor party. On December 12, 1993 Dicle was elected party chairman.

On 2 March 1994, Parliament repealed the political immunity Dicles and his friends and on the same day Dicle was arrested at the output of the Parliament. On 8 December 1994, the court imposed four former MPs ( Hatip Dicle, Leyla Zana, Orhan Dogan and Selim Sadak ) for membership in a terrorist organization - the PKK is meant - and treason heavy prison sentence of 15 years. The DEP was banned on 16 April 1994.

On 9 June 2004, the four captive were freed after a retrial and pressure from the European Union. But Dicle had a political activity prohibition. He helped establish the Demokratik Partisi Toplum and supported at election events to the 2007 General Election and the independent candidates.

In the course of operations against the banned sub-organization of the PKK Kurdistan coma Civakên Dicle was arrested in April 2010 and until 2012 was in custody. For the general elections in June 2011 Dicle ran in prison as an independent candidate for the province of Diyarbakir and was supported by the BDP. He won the election with 88,000 votes.
