Hato-Udo

Hato -Udo ( Hatu -Udo, Hatu Udo, Hotahudo, Hotudo, Uato -Udo, formerly Nova Luca, Nova - Luso ) is the capital of the subdistrict Hato - Udo in East Timor Ainaro district.

The place

Hato -Udo is located 339 meters above the sea in the Suco Leolima, near the lake Lagoa Lebomulua. It is located in the center of a settlement center of many resorts that are located in close proximity to each other. To state capital Dili there are in a straight line about 61 km to the north (26 kilometers by road ) to the district capital Ainaro about 16 km to the northwest. In Hato -Udo there is a preparatory school for the secondary stage and a community health center. Other public facilities there are at the other places of the settlement center.

The subdistrict

Geography

The subdistrict Hato -Udo forms the southernmost part of the district Ainaro. While in the eastern district Manufahi adjacent, lie west of the sub-district and district Ainaro Cova Lima, on a narrow body shall Hato -Udo in the north to the sub-district Hatu - Builico. In the south the Timor Sea is located. Significant points of the coast is the Ponta Lalétec. Along the western border of Hatu - Builicos flows Belulik, the district Manufahi in the east the boundary is formed by the rivers Aiasa and Caraulun. At the border of Cova Lima Belulik feeds several lakes, including the Lagoa Oebaba.

Hato -Udo is divided into two Sucos: Foho -Ai - Lico ( Beicala, Beikala ) and Leolima ( Leo -Lima ).

Population

In Subdistrict live 9,645 inhabitants (2010, 2004: 8,817 ). The largest language group in the sub-district form the Speaker of the National Language Mambai. In Suco Foho -Ai - Lico many residents speak as their mother tongue Bunak. They wandered in the Portuguese colonial era after disputes with other Bunakgruppen from the western Ainaro here. Also Kemak is spoken in the subdistrict. In addition to the Catholic majority, there are Muslims and in Foho -Ai - Lico Protestants. The average age is 18.6 years ( 2010, 2004: 17.7 years ).

61 % of households cultivate maize, cassava, 59%, 58 % coconut, 43% vegetables, 17 % rice and 22 % coffee.

History

During the Indonesian occupation of the sub-district of Hato -Udo was separated from the district Manufahi and joined the district Ainaro, for which the subdistrict Turiscai of Ainaro joined Manufahi.
