Hatsuyume

Hatsuyume (Japanese初 梦, dt " first dream " ) is a Japanese superstition about the first dream of the new year. As people after the Japanese New Year celebration on January first again only to find normal everyday life, it is the dream of the night for the second of January. This has, however, shifted the course of history due to the various Japanese calendar.

The dream is to predict what expectations can provide the dreaming of the new year. Since feudal times, there were different customs and efforts, which should help that a happy dream is dreamed. So, people from all walks lay in the Muromachi period an image of a sailing ship ( Takarabune ) with the word "treasure" on the sails under her pillow.

It brings good luck, first to dream of Mount Fuji, secondly, of a falcon ( taka ) and thirdly, of an eggplant (一 富士 二 鹰 三 茄子, fuji ichi, ni taka, san Nasubi ). This belief can be found since the Edo period again. The exact origin of this superstition is not released. One theory is that this is for tall items. The Fuji is Japan's highest mountain, a mountain in the vicinity, and about half that is the Ashitaka. Eggplant could therefore have been chosen because they had a high price in ancient Japan.

Occasionally, this triple is continued by subjects, tobacco and blind monk (四扇 五 多 波 姑 六座 头, shi Ogi, go tabako, roku Zato ).
