The 14 Flugkörper-/Torpedoschnellboote the Hauk - class were asked from 1979 to 1980 in service. They form the Küstenverteidigungsflottille the Norwegian Navy and have to protect the rugged coast of Norway the task. Hauk means to Norwegian " hawk".

The Hauk - class has been modernized several times, most recently in 2004. This additional three heavy machine guns and two anti-aircraft missiles from the Mistral on board were, moreover, they are now equipped with improved data radio systems, the Penguin missiles have been upgraded and modernized the navigation system. Today, they are also referred to as "super - Hauks " and are expected to remain in service until 2015. The boats are grouped into two squadrons ( 21 and 22 ). In the 21 speedboat squadron also the prototype of the new Skjold class is currently being tested. Five boats are not currently on active duty.

The Royal Norwegian Navy stationed Hauk 2003, four boats of the 21 speed boat squadron in the Spanish Cádiz for anti-terrorism patrol in the Active Endeavour action at the Strait of Gibraltar.

Since 2006, the four boats of the 22 speed boat squadron for UNIFIL II mission off the coast of Lebanon are in use.
