Haukivuori

Haukivuori is place in eastern Finland, and was until 2006 an independent municipality. On 1 January 2007 Haukivuori was incorporated into the city of Mikkeli.

The church has existed since 1873 and included in addition to the Kirchdorf (Finnish Kirkonkylä ) Haukivuori and train village ( Asemankylä ) the places Häkkilä, Kantala, Nykälä, Pitkäaho, Moilala, Pohjalahti, Tervalahti, Tuliniemi and Taipale. The old center is the village church; the present parish church was built of brick in 1951 after the previous building was built in 1790 Wood burned in 1949. In the 1950s, the local government was moved to the village a few kilometers south railway station, which is also the focus of settlement today.

The landscape around Haukivuori is characterized by numerous lakes and glacial ridge. The 165.7 -meter-high Saksalanharju is arguably the greatest Drumlin Europe.

In sporting terms Haukivuori stands out as the venue for the first World Championship in Volleyball swamp. It took place until 30 June 2006 in the swamp Rajasuo of 29.
