The haunted house (or room ) is a motif of fantastic literature, especially that enjoyed great popularity in the 19th century and even later - was used repeatedly - about the film.

Background

The preference of many authors for this image depends on the one hand, with its dramatic abundant variations together, on the other hand, to the immanent goal of the fantastic, this is rather simple to implement: The uncertainty of the recipient and the associated feeling of the uncanny, which arises when the reality and everyday perception is questioned. Is the threat that is from the object, the most strikingly embodies the security of the people of the house or room, the effect is even more worrying, even more dramatic.

Structure

At the beginning of a typical Spukhausgeschichte the protagonists are often associated with a new house or rent a room - in the film for the audience normally moved by appropriate camera work and music to scary - threatening -, so that after some time have that happen strange things of different nature. Can these be initially apparently be explained rationally, this hope fades in the course of action in most cases. At the end of the phenomena are often attributed to crime in the house, which can lead to end the Haunting; on the other hand it is also possible that the residents are forced to leave the house. Authors such as Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu, Ambrose Bierce, HP Lovecraft and Stephen King ( The Shining ) have processed the image on each specific manner.
