Haurietis aquas

Haurietis aquas ( You will draw water, according to Isaiah 12:3) is an encyclical by Pope Pius XII. on May 13, 1956, published on the occasion of the centenary of the Sacred Heart festival. It is so far the last letter of a pope that has the Sacred Heart devotion to the subject.

Background

Significantly affected by the 1690 deceased Margaret Mary led Pius IX. 1856 Sacred Heart Festival a binding for the whole Catholic Church.

In the 50s of the last century Catholic theologians developed a new understanding of the Sacred Heart devotion. This basic direction was also reflected in different Pope writing, particularly in the encyclical Haurietis aquas. The theologians linked the Sacred Heart devotion closely with the fundamental truths of the Christian faith, especially with the doctrine of the Holy Spirit and the sacraments. - The Sacred Heart is fixed at varying dates, namely on Friday eight days after the Feast of Corpus Christi ( = the third Friday after Pentecost, or the first "free" Friday after Fronleichnamsoktav ). The feast is often on the third Sunday after Pentecost, for example, in Tyrol, where the Sacred Heart festival with special customs (eg Sacred Heart fire, parades, processions, etc.) is committed. The first Friday of each month is called the Sacred Heart Friday.
