Hauteville family

The Hauteville family (Italian: Altavilla ) are the descendants of Tancred of Hauteville, a local nobleman from Normandy who led the conquest of southern Italy by the Normans. As the headquarters of Tancred applies Hauteville- la- Guichard at Coutances.

The eldest sons of Tancred, most notably Robert Guiscard to Apulia seized, Roger I., the youngest son, was assisted in the conquest of Sicily. The descendants of Robert Guiscard received in the First Crusade, the Principality of Antioch, the descendants Rogers was King of Naples and Sicily. The Principality of Antioch by Raymond of Poitiers to the family of the Counts of Poitou, the Kingdom of Sicily to the Hohenstaufen: by extinction in the male line and female succession both possessions went to other families.
