Havhingsten fra Glendalough

The fra Glendalough Sea Stallion (English: Sea Stallion from Glendalough ) is a reconstruction of Skuldelev 2, one of the Skuldelev ships. The original ship was built at about 1042 near Dublin.

Research trip to Dublin in 2007

A " return trip " to Dublin took place in July and August 2007. Due to a recession, the ship was towed by the North Sea, but then has the onward journey continued without outside help. The ship has left the port of Roskilde on July 1, and reached Dublin August 14 shortly before 14 clock local time.

On the website of the project log and diaries of the captain, the cook, the boatswain and the nurse can be found.

The ship was on the 17th August 2007 at the National Museum of Ireland, where it was exhibited up to his return to Denmark in the summer of 2008.

The British TV channel BBC Two broadcast in its history program Timewatch on January 5, 2008, a documentary about the expedition.

Public relations

After the arrival of the ship in Ireland, two stamps were brought out with the motif of the Sea Stallion of the Irish Post. The one has a value of 55 cents and the other one of 3 euros.

Furthermore, there is from October 2007 to June 2008 a series of lectures at the National Museum of Ireland, organized by the Ship Museum in Roskilde.
