Havsa

Havsa is the name of a district town and a district in the northern Turkish province of Edirne. Havza has 8,602 and the county of 20,875 inhabitants ( 2010).

The largely composed of plains district is bordered to the east by the province Kırklareli. In the district Havsa there except Havsa no other municipalities and 22 villages. The city Havsa has the rank of a municipality since 1940 and is located 27 km from the provincial capital of Edirne.

Previous names were Hasköy and Havas -i Mahmud Pasha ( " private property by Mahmut Pasha "). Evliya Çelebi called the village Hafsa and explained that this was the name of a famous woman named Hafsa Hatun who lived there.
