Hawker P.1121
The Hawker P.1121 was a prototype for a single-beam and single-seat Mach 2 fast air superiority fighter for the British Royal Air Force.
History of development
In February 1955, the Air Ministry launched a tender for a new interceptor. He should fly Mach 2, and in less than six minutes to climb to 60.000ft ( 18.288m ). Hawker Siddeley submitted a design with the designation P.1103 one which was later further developed and renamed P.1121. In 1956 the construction of the first mock-up began, was planned under the designation P.1116 also a two-seater variant, which was rejected. In 1957/58 due to the development of a change in strategy by the British Government has been canceled.
