Haya Rashed Al-Khalifa

Haya Rashid Al Khalifa (Arabic هيا راشد آل خليفة, Haya Rashid DMG Āl Halifa, according to the English transliteration often Haya Rashed Al- Khalifa, born October 18, 1952) is a lawyer and diplomat from Bahrain. In June 2006 she was elected president of the 61st UN General Assembly. She took office in September 2006 from its predecessor Jan Eliasson, and practiced there for a year to 17 September 2007. Al Khalifa, is only the third woman who presides over the UN General Assembly.

Al Khalifa studied until 1974 in Kuwait Jura; with her in 1979, together with another, first admitted a woman in Bahrain as a lawyer.

From 1999 to 2004 she was the first woman to represent her homeland, which she represented in France.

Al Khalifa ruling family of Bahrain is part of the Al Khalifa, her great-grandfather Isa ibn Ali Al Khalifa was up to his death in 1932 ruler of the country, it is also great-great aunt of the current ruler.
