Hayange

Hayange ( German Hayingen ) is a commune with 15,730 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region.

Geography

The municipality is located in Hayange Fenschtal, about eight kilometers south-west of Thionville ( dt: Diedenhofen ). The municipal area also includes the formerly independent Saint -Nicolas -en- Forêt, which was incorporated in 1969.

History

The town was first mentioned in 821 as Heingen.

Economy

Since 1704 Hayange is dominated by the iron and steel industry. After numerous closures in the 1970s and 1980s are still the company Corus, which manufactures railroad tracks, and Sollac Lorraine in Hayange active. On 3 October 2011, the last blast furnace ( "P6" ) of France in the Arcelor -Mittal plant in Hayange was shut down amid protests.
