The Hayes Glacier empties into the south-eastern part of the Weddell Sea, about 27 miles West South West of Dawson - Lambton Glacier. The glacier was discovered on November 5, 1967 by an LC -130 aircraft for the U.S. Navy during a flight over Coats Land and has been mapped by the USGS after aerial photographs. It was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names to Winston R. Hayes, the pilot on this flight.
