Hayes Jones

Hayes Wendell Jones (* August 4, 1938 in Starkville, Oktibbeha County, Mississippi) is a former American track and field athlete. At a height of 1.80 m his competition weight was 76 kg.

Hayes Jones was represented despite its rather small size, due to its high basic speed and its excellent technology for years in the world rankings in the 110- meter hurdles. The winner of the U.S. Trials, he was a favorite at the Olympic Games in 1960, but only won the bronze medal behind defending champion Lee Calhoun and Willie May. This race of 1960 was so far the last 110- meter hurdles final of the Olympic history, in which all three medals went to the USA. In subsequent years, Jones won more titles in the U.S. so he could also qualify for the Olympic Games in 1964. And now he could win in 13.6 s the gold medal, which he had missed in 1960.
