Haystack

A Dieme, also Heinze, Heubock, Feime or Triste, regional as Diemen ( mask ) or Hocke called, is in traditional agriculture a regular patch pile of hay, straw or grain, which is built at harvest on the field. The sheaves are placed together so that the ears can make the highest point and wipe dry.

History

Diemen have been known since the Iron Age. The grain was mowed, bound by hand into sheaves, these sheaves were then placed to Diemen, the cereals dried according to the stalk. Was the cereal dry, it was threshed: If the field could be traveled by the threshing machine, you slammed on the field, in the marsh and bog areas, Diemen were redissolved and loaded the sheaves of corn with a fork on a horse-drawn cart and taken to the farmstead, where the steam threshing machine, later a threshing machine, which was driven by rope belt from a tractor, the grain threshed.

Diemen were either directly on the ground or on iron and wooden racks, the latter with stone pedestals erected. You could taper or expand upwards.

Grain and fodder was built mostly on documents of straw or on racks and covered up with straw, nor particularly kept even after the weather side.

In England it used almost exclusively iron racks.
