Hazard (game)

Hazard or French Hasard is an old English game with two dice, which is mentioned in the 14th century by Geoffrey Chaucer in the Canterbury Tales. The name Hazard derives from the Arabic az- zahr, the plurality of dice, from. Hazard is not to be confused with Grand Hazard, which is played with three dice; Grand Hazard is another name for Sic Bo or Chuck a Luck.

Hazard was - despite the complicated rules - in the 17th and 18th centuries so popular that it became the quintessential gambling, gambling are therefore commonly referred to as games of chance. In Crockford 's, Almack 's and Brooks 's Club in London Hazard was particularly enjoyed playing.

In the 19th century was created by a simplification of the rules ( see below) from Hazard Craps, which is played in private and in casinos.

The rules

A player shooter or Caster makes a bet, the Banco; the other players, the fader, set against it. Are the stakes placed, the game with the finding of the Main point begins. For this, the shooter rolls as long as two dice until he achieves eyes sum of 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9 - other throws do not count. The thus-determined number is the Main point or fader 'point.

Now the shooter rolls a second time. In this litter the decision on income already falls ( Caster throws in, or nicks ) or loss ( Caster throws out) or there is a chance point, also noted shooter 's point according to the following table:

If in this litter no immediate decision, ie, an opportunity is detected point, the shooter rolls on and until such time as he either the Main point meets and loses the chance again or point rolls and wins.

Beat the shooter, so he gets to keep the dice and continue playing; he may then be extracted from a no profits from the bank. If the Shooter loses immediately upon discovery of the Main point ( ie, because he point in the first litter after approval of the Main a 2, 3, or depending on a 11 or 12 has thrown ), he may - if he wants - also the dice retain and create a new Banco. The shooter it can pass the dice also to his right neighbor.

If the Shooter loses after approval of the chance points by the union of main point, he must pass the dice to its right neighbor.

The shooter wins with probability of 49.1 %; it is thus compared with the fader at a disadvantage, the advantage of the fader is approximately 1.8 % (see house edge ).

Leaving aside the finding of the Main point away and sets it in advance on Seven, so the game follows the rules of craps; this simplification is to Bernard de Mandeville introduced in 1813 in New Orleans.

Side bets

If in a round, chance determined point, then the shooter usually in a so-called setter bets (side bets) to complete - and the fair odds.

Suppose the Main Point is 7 and the chance is 4 point, the shooter wins on a roll of 1-3, 2-2, 3-1 and lost on a roll of 1-6, 2-5, 3-4, 4-3, 5-2, 6-1. Since the three favorable for the shooter combinations are six unfavorable combinations over, the rate is 6: 3 or 2: 1
