The HC Appiano Pirates is an Italian ice hockey club from Appiano at the Wine Road, which currently plays in the 2a Divisione, the second highest Italian Hockey League, as well as in the Inter - National -League. As the biggest successes so far in 2002/ 03, 2009/10 and 2012/13 came in the seasons 2001/ 02, each winning the championship in the second division. Most players on the team are from the Appiano, the home community of the club. A special rivalry, there is the also located in Oltradige pike SV Kaltern Hockey ( Überetscher Derby), which are located in the neighboring municipality of Caldaro. The club colors are yellow and blue.

History

The Hockey Club Appiano Pirates was founded on 13 March 1981. The Championship 1983/84 contributed to the home games still on the ice rink in Auer from, since the championship in 1984/85 to wear them on the built between summer 1983 and autumn of 1984 and 1986 covered ice rink, in Appiano out. Before the start of the Championship club in memory of the player Pepi Pichler, Sigi upper smoke and Joseph Geyer organized the traditional Memorial tournament ( before 2008 also Pepi - Pichler- tournament called ). Pepi Pichler was buried on 20 March at the 1985 Monte Pecol (Vigo di Fassa ) of an avalanche. The best young players of the club will be awarded the Sigmund- top smoke Challenge Cup, also in memory of the same unfortunate player ( helicopter crash on 19 June 1990 in Lana ).

Venues

Home of the hockey club is the ice rink Appiano. The home stadium has a seating capacity of about 1500 seats. The naming rights were awarded to the company IC -iT Energy Solutions for the seasons 2010/11 and 2011 /12. In the course of naming a photovoltaic system was installed on the roof of the ice rink.

Farm team control

The HC Appiano was from summer 2009 farm team of the Serie A1 participant HC Bolzano. The collaboration was first dissolved 29 August 2010 and restarted on 22 September 2010. Since September 2011, the club without farm team partner, as the existing farm team partners from Bolzano has connected to the HC Pergine.

Jarno Mens Onen was committed after the end of the season 2010-2011. He succeeds Jari Helle, who was engaged as a replacement for Mike Ellis as head coach. With Mike Ellis managed the team in 2010 in the series A2 to reach the first place in the table and then to win the championship title in the playoffs.
