HD 40979 is an approximately 108 light-years distant, sun-like star in the constellation Auriga, which is surrounded by an exoplanet, called HD 40979 b. It has an apparent magnitude of 6.74 mag.

The companion HD 40979 b has an orbital period of around 264 days, a semi-major axis of about 0.9 astronomical units and a minimum mass of about 3.8 Jupiter masses (about 1200 Earth masses ). The property was et by Fischer in 2002. al. discovered using the radial velocity method.
