HD Radio

HD Radio is a proprietary used in the United States, digital radio system that was developed as a complement to DAB.

The unofficial technical name for IBOC HD Radio is for " in-band on- channel ". The standard was developed by the company iBiquity, which was established for this purpose. A feature of HD Radio is that, in contrast to DAB works not only purely digital, but can also be operated as a hybrid system simultaneously with the analog medium wave and FM radio. However, this increases the frequency requirements and it could cause interference to adjacent channels. In Europe, on a VHF channel spacing of 100 kHz usual, while there are 200 kHz in the USA.

Since May 2006 runs in Switzerland, a field trial to test the suitability for European conditions. The planned start of September 1, 2010 has been postponed indefinitely.
