Background information

In September 2009, Goldfrapp announced that they are working on a new album. Like the previous albums, Head First was in a house and not recorded as usual in a recording studio. Alison Goldfrapp justified this by the time freedom and the lower cost. But first, they composed the soundtrack for the John Lennon film Nowhere Boy. The duo had received an offer from the record company to release a greatest hits album, but decided on a fifth studio album. Originally wanted Goldfrapp with her new album to pursue the quieter, more aesthetic sound of its predecessor Seventh Tree, but singer Alison Goldfrapp said it had " not really felt " and thus the musical style of the album is located in the synthpop of the 70s and 80s.

Texts

The songs on Head First written by Alison Goldfrapp without exception and Will Gregory. The first single Rocket ( German: "Rocket" ) is, according Goldfrapp from a person you want to put on rocket to shoot him into space and get rid of him for good. Believer is about a person who begins to believe in one another, and to trust her. Alive ( German: " lively " ), the second single from the album, is about regained vitality and vitality.

Head First, the title track of the album, is, according to Alison Goldfrapp them to plunge headlong into a fresh love. I believe inspiration she had from a close friend who had just fallen in love and yet knew that he would see his beloved ever again.

The last piece of the album Voice Thing ( German: "Voices thing" ) is the most outstanding song on the album. Here was completely dispensed with lyrics. Rather sounds and sounds of the singer have been altered by vocoder, loops and other vocal effects and as a rhythm and melody instrument placed on a song base of synthesizers.

Criticism

The review about Head First was positive.

" Clear and structured melodies find their catchy, the production is smooth and definitely. No worlds to explore, no distance to Escape. Goldfrapp try it with a crowbar. And lead the competition so the run around ... So this summer album straight developed into a substantial sound tissue whose lightness is only superficial. Goldfrapp know exactly what they're doing. "

"With every album, Goldfrapp hides and present to the public a new facet of her work ... Between coolness and Bad Taste, between Olivia Newton -John and Amanda Lear on one side and Alison Goldfrapp on the other overcome Head First dance on the razor blade. Re- skinning succeeded. "
