However Cottle short time it was replaced by Neil Murray for the subsequent tour. Also on the promo materials for publication are only Iommi, Powell and Martin imaged. Queen guitarist Brian May contributed the guitar solo to When Death Calls.

After the commercially disappointing previous album succeeded with Black Sabbath Headless Cross to get back on track. It could be reached # 31 in the UK album charts and # 115 in the U.S. charts, and with Headless Cross and Devil & Daughter two singles were released.

Headless Cross is characterized by a dark mood, which affects both the musical orientation as well as the lyrics. Occult and sinister themes dominate the board, especially the lyrics to the listener to leave open to many different interpretations. After the commercially less successful years and constant line-up changes Headless Cross is considered by fans and critics as the best album of Black Sabbath for some time.
