Action

In 1959, Julia, Harrison Winslow, Penny Washington and Milo Peck drive in San Francisco with a trolleybus. They die after an accident and at the same moment Thomas is born to which they are magically bound. Their spirits show themselves to the small Thomas Reilly. And he is also the only one who can see them. This influences the boy so much that people think he was crazy ( talking to himself and dancing to songs that sing the ghosts ) and then the spirits make them invisible to him, to spare him further trouble.

After many years, Reilly has already grown up. He is a businessman, deep trouble his relationship with Anne. The ghosts appear to him again. Reilly helps the spirits to settle the unfinished business in life matters. Milo Peck brings back the stolen stamps. The singer Harrison Winslow sings during a concert. Penny Washington finds out what happened to their children after their death.

Every time when a thing is done, the trolley with the spirit of the accident the driver of her death appears to take one of the spirits to the afterlife. The last spirit, that of Julia, learns that Julia's fiance died already, so she could not tell him her feelings. But she has Thomas points out that he does the same with Anne as she with her fiance and that he must not repeat their mistake. So she sees her as a thing done, and continues with the trolley bus to the afterlife.

Reviews

James Berardinelli wrote on Reel Views, the plot is implausible. The jokes are not funny, the audience can not identify with the characters. Berardinelli praised the portrayal of Tom Sizemore and criticized the representations of Kyra Sedgwick, Alfre Woodard, Charles Grodin and Elisabeth Shue.

Robert Downey Jr. won the Saturn Award in 1994. The film received nine nominations for the Saturn Award, including Best Fantasy Film, for the performer Kyra Sedgwick, Charles Grodin, Tom Sizemore and Alfre Woodard, for the direction of Ron Underwood, for the screenplay and the music by Marc Shaiman.

Eric Lloyd in 1994 was nominated for the Young Artist Award.
