Hearts of Soul

Hearts of Soul was a Dutch girl trio from the town of Harderwijk. It consisted of the three sisters Bianca, Stella and Patricia Maessen and stood at the Euro Vision Song Contest 1970.

The three sisters were working in the 1960s, first as background singers. In 1968, she received the offer to act in their own name.

1969 the debut album of the trio. In the same year the trio released its first single, Oh what a Price that was as a result single Everybody Goes for Joe not a great sales success. It was not until 1970 with the third release Fat Jack, the group was able to place in the Dutch charts.

Also in 1970 took the three singers participated in the Dutch preliminary decision to Euro Vision Song Contest with the song written by Pieter Goemans Waterman, which they won by six points against the other nine participants also. Thus, they represented the Netherlands at Euro Vision Song Contest in Amsterdam, where they landed in the middle and reached the seventh place among twelve participants. Because groups were not allowed in the competition at this time, Bianca and Stella were officially listed as background singers of Patricia.

Despite this success, the trio but did not make the hoped-for commercial breakthrough. In 1972, the single It's Great Fun reached again slightly higher attention from the public, but managed not to jump into the charts. As 1972, the Hearts of Soul with I Can Hear You Calling their last single out.

The mid-1970s settled the three sisters over to Belgium, where they founded together with Luc Smets the band Dream Express, with which they again took part in the Euro Vision Song Contest (ESC ) 1977. Also in 1970 they were seen in the ARD film The Million Dollar Game.

Stella Maessen later published under the name Stella Mason some solo recordings or joined by their first name again to the ESC.
