Heather McKay

Heather McKay, MBE, AM ( born July 31, 1941 in Queanbeyan, New South Wales as Heather Blundell ) is a retired Australian squash player who is widely regarded as the greatest player of all time. She was in the 1960s and 1970s, over 19 years unbeaten and ended shortly after winning the first official World Squash Championship her career.

Career

1962 Heather McKay won the most important Squash Tournament of the time, the British Open, for the first time and defended the title 15 times, 1968, she won the finals even without point loss. In 1976 she won the unofficial Women's World Squash Championship, which is already done in some lists as World Cup success. Only in 1979 there was an official Women's World Cup, which they won against the Englishwoman Sue Cogswell 6:9, 9:3, 9:1, 9:4. In 1981, McKay played only seniors tournaments ( "Masters Level " ) in squash. 1960 and 1962 she lost the only two official games of their careers.

Other Sports

She won the 1979 American Amateur Racquetball Championship and in the years 1980, 1981 and 1984, the American Professional Racquetball Championship. They also won in 1980 and 1982 to 1985 the Canadian Racquetball Championship. Route, she was also a member of the national team in hockey.

Honors

Heather McKay in 1969 Member of the Order of the British Empire ( MBE) in 1979 and Member of the Order of Australia (AM). She received the Australian Sports Medal in 2000 and was inducted into the World Squash Hall of Fame in 1993.
