Description

Hebes Chasma is a fully enclosed depression of the surface of Mars without drains to the nearby Echus Chasma to the west, Perrotin crater in the southwest and the Valles Marineris in the south. Its maximum extent is about 320 km in the east-west direction, 130 km in north-south direction and up to 8 km depth. In the center of the depression there are a large mesa with up to 7 km altitude, which is almost as high as the surrounding terrain. This central plateau of Hebes Chasma makes a unique valley in the Martian geography.
