Hecatomb (card game)

Hecatomb was a collectible card game of the American company Wizards of the Coast, the publishers of the first internationally successful trading card game, Magic: The Gathering. The game is distinguished from the previous game variants by its pentagonal, printed on plastic laminate partially transparent cards. The game was only available in English. The base game with 144 different cards was released on 18 August 2005 at Gen Con in Indianapolis, USA. In trading starter sets were available with 40 random cards and booster packs with 13 random cards.

On 24 May 2006 it was announced on the official website that the extension Blanket of Lies, would be the last extension for Hecatomb and the game will not be developed further.

Aim of the game

In the game there are two or more opponents face, each of which represents a powerful, dark magician, a so-called Endbringer. The goal of each Endbringers is to destroy the world with the help conjured creatures called Abominations. Each Endbringer trying to harvest as many souls with the help of his Abominations until it has enough power to trigger the apocalypse. To achieve this goal we shall first card as the power source ( Manasource ) into its Manazone. These are then used by individual creatures to summon or to speak spells. An interesting deviation from other trading card game mechanics is composed of Abominations, which are " patched together " of several individual cards. For this purpose, as laid one upon another, that you can see through transparent portions of the trail on the label of the card including 2 to 5 of the cards. This many combinations and effects are opened.

Each Endbringer gets a soul per turn automatically and the game ends when one of the two opponents has collected 20 souls. This is a kind of countdown integrated into the game, which is to prevent too long games.
