Héctor Abad Faciolince
Héctor Abad Faciolince (born 1958 in Medellín ) is a Colombian author, essayist and publisher. He is best known for its award-winning novels Angosta and El olvido que seremos (Eng. letter to a shadow ).
Life
Héctor Abad was born in 1958 in Medellin (Colombia ) as the only boy next five sisters. His father, Héctor Abad Gómez, was a noted physician, university professor and human rights activist, whose vision of a holistic health system let him set up the Colombian National School of Public Health.
Abad moved after graduating from a private Catholic school in 1978 to Mexico City when his father was appointed adviser to the Colombian Embassy in Mexico. During this time, Abad attended workshops in literature, creative writing and poetry at La Casa del Lago, the first off-campus lying, the cultural center of the National Autonomous University of Mexico. After the return of the family to Colombia, he studied at the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana, until he was expelled due to a pope critical article 1982 of the University. He emigrated to Italy and studied languages and Modern Literature at the University of Turin there. In 1987 he returned to Colombia, but had to go to his father's murder by paramilitary troops flee in the same year to Europe. For five years he lived again in Italy, worked as a lecturer at the University of Verona and has translated the works of Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa and Umberto Eco.
1992 Abad returned back to Colombia, began to write novels.
