Heddal

Heddal (old German name Hitterdal ) is a district of Notodden municipality in the Norwegian county of Telemark. Before 1964, the city was the administrative center of a municipality 's own. It is close to the almost 12 km long lake Heddalsvatnet in the Valley of Heddøla.

Heddal is primarily known for the 13th-century stave church Heddal and be open-air museum. The latter presents among other 15 historic farmsteads from Telemark; the oldest monumental buildings date from the 15th and 16th centuries.
