Geography

Heddesbach, part of the Rhine- Neckar, is located in the Ulfenbachtal in the Odenwald. The district extends 180-460 meters above sea level and is part of the Natural Park Neckar -Odenwald.

The municipality is bordered to the north by the Hessian Wald- Michel Bach, on the east by the Brombach district of the city of Eberbach, on the south by the district of Langenthal the Hessian town of Hirschhorn ( Neckar), in the southwest of the district Altneudorf the town of Schönau and to the west by Heiligkreuzsteinach.

History

The settlement of the area probably began only towards the end of the 12th century. On behalf of the Bishop of Worms Bligger built III. Steinach of the harp castle, thus founding the line of the Lords of Harfenbergstrasse. With the demise of the harp Berger acquired after 1300 the Palatinate, the castle, together with the local government of the settlement, the 1322 is first mentioned as Heddesbach. 2012 Hermann Roth ( Independent) was elected Mayor of Heddesbach. He replaces Herwig small (independent), who served since 1985.

Coat of arms

The blazon of the arms is: In red a silver harp.

The coat of arms design was elaborated in 1911 by the General State Archives. It alludes to the country of Steinach, who had led the harp in the arms. The municipality took the coat of arms on it, but first wanted to buy no new seal. Therefore, it is used for only one municipal council from 1950.

Culture and sights

Heddesbach attracts with its natural economic environment, many forest trails and provides space for various sports activities. In addition, an above-average club life is recorded. The streets and canals in the historic center, some of which dated from the early years of the 20th century, renovated in 2004. The St. Peter's Church was built in the 13th century as a fortified church. The choir tower dates from this period. In the 18th century the nave and the onion dome were grown. The frescoes in the choir date from the 15th century and were painted over during the iconoclasm of 1556. In the 20th century they were rediscovered and restored. Equipped is the church with a Overmann organ from 1804 and a Baroque pulpit.

The school and town hall was built in 1904 in Art Nouveau style and is a listed building. The elementary school was closed down in 1972 and the building is now used as a community center.

From the harp castle only sparse remnants have been preserved. It was probably created in the 12th century and was one of the oldest castles in southern Odenwald. She was the headquarters of the harp Berger and dominated the villages Heddesbach, Brombach and Langenthal. With the demise of the harp Berger, the castle fell in 1300 to the Palatinate, which they pledged in 1314 to the Lords of Hirschhorn. 1340 Engelhard of Hirschhorn was invited by Count Palatine to fix the damage done by him to the castle " great harm ". Whether this came about is not clear. From the 15th century, the castle is mentioned only as a place name.

By Heddesbach the L 3105 leads to Hirschhorn, where it connects to the main road 37 ( Heidelberg Mosbach ) and Federal Highway 45 ( Sinsheim- Wöllstadt ). The BRN operates a bus route that leads to Hirschhorn and forest -Michel Bach. In Hirschhorn is a S-Bahn Rhein Neckar train station. Heddesbach belongs to the tariff zone of the transport association Rhein- Neckar.

Education
